Nigerians must remain committed despite election postponement- Tinubu

The National Leader of  All Progressives Congress (APC), Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu has advised Nigerians to maintain their commitment and not let the poll shift discourage them.

Tinubu said this in a statement delivered to reporters  on Saturday in Lagos by his Media Officer, Mr Tunde Rahman.

There were reports of voters who left their homes very early to cast their ballots on Saturday, Feb. 16, however, they were informed when they got to the polling units that the election had been postponed.

Tinubu stated that this kind of disappointment shouldn't have happened as it could discourage voters from coming out for the election again.

"Do not allow this delay to deter you from the expression of your democratic rights. What you had set your mind to do on February 16, keep your mind and heart on for February 23", Tinubu said.

He further stated, "As the National Leader of APC and as a Nigerian, I must express my profound concern and dissatisfaction with the sudden postponement of the Presidential and National Assembly elections by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)".

"INEC should have informed the nation earlier. This could have perhaps reduced the pervasive disappointment that we all now feel. People would have as well better order their steps", he said.

Tinubu said INEC can only satisfy Nigerians with that action by conducting free, fair and credible election.

" INEC can only properly discharge that responsibility by conducting free, fair and credible election".

"Please, endure just a bit more to ensure that the election on February 23 truly reflect the choice of Nigerians", he concluded.

Presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled for February 16 were postponed until February 23 by INEC very early on Saturday, February 16.

Governorship, State Houses of Assembly and Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections were also postponed from March 2 to March 9 by INEC.
