The Blood of Vol

Here is my HotT army - The Blood of Vol, or Cult of Vol, if you will. I selected this army from the nice range of prepainted D&D miniatures available out there. I chose this theme for several reasons: cheap; I like the minis; they fit into the way I wanted a HotT army to fight; and there was already some good "fluff" background available for them. I am not the most creative when it comes to imagination so this was a plus. The army can be up to 30 points with what I have purchased thus far. Here is a summary of each:

LADY ERANDIS D'VOL
Lady d'Vol was already thousands of years old when she was "vanquished" by her enemies who were concerned over her intense study of necromancy and had deemed she had become too powerful a threat to the balance of the ruling families. A direct descendent of the first Elven bloodlines, Lady Vol was a true force and a cult was founded dedicated to the continued study of powerful magics and necromancy bent on bringing about her return as a god.

The mounting theme I chose for this army was to represent the figures in their subterranean temple environment. I have mounted her on the Dais of Divine Power where it is hoped she will return to life. I will add some "dungeon" accessories like candles and a cauldron of blood I think I still have from my Dark Elf collection. It is the life energy drawn from the blood of the victims of the Cult that is needed for her return.

THE CULT TRIBUNAL
The driving force of the Blood of Vol are the Cultist Mages. They have studied the ancient dark magics and have striven to master life over death through the way of the necromancers. Powerful magicians in their own right, they are the temporary masters of the followers of Vol until her return.

Again depicted in their subterranean temple, the Tribunal is based shrouded in a mist of life energy. It is this energy that drives all in the cult. It is used to feed Lady Vol but some is still needed to raise and give power to the Tribunal Guard and the army of Fanatics. The power of three is needed so I mounted all of my D&D Cultists on the base. I found a tome on a pedestal and may add that facing the mages as their "Book of the Dead" or just may use it as a temple accessory. I haven't decided yet.

DIVINITY SEEKERS

These are the elite bodyguard for the Tribunal mentioned earlier. I like these figures and wanted them to be based in the same mist of life energy as the Tribunal. They are 3Bd in the HotT system.
FANATICS OF VOL
The rank and file of the Blood of Vol are the Fanatics. Mindless killing machines raised from the blood of the Cult's enemies. Staying with the temple floor theme, I represented them (hopefully) as being risen from the very foundation of the temple. I have always been fond of the skeleton scene in Jason and the Argonauts! And now for what the Two Davids are waiting for - they are 5Hd! Yes, I wanted a horde army and this theme fit perfectly. In HotT, horde elements are not permanently eliminated. They can come back using your command pips entering at your own board edge. I suppose this was a mechanic to allow representation of vast armies or, in my case, the ability to raise more legions from the dead. I love it!!! Here they are:

So there it is - my first HotT army - The Blood of Vol. They should be fun to play although I have doubts about their ability to win much. Who cares. It'll be a blast! I hope you enjoyed this post. Let me know what you think. Next up will be Druchii Death! The Dark Elves.
